Testimonials: DeepSea (UK)
DeepSea is a leading independent subsea engineering contractor offering engineering services and project management to Operators, Installation Contractors and Suppliers from global locations in London, Aberdeen, Houston, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. Their scope extends from the wellhead to the production facility, whether fixed, floating or shore-based, including the interfaces at either end. DeepSea’s expertise in subsea engineering of pipelines/flowlines, risers, umbilicals and structures is applied throughout the project timeline from field development concept selection, FEED, detailed design and verification through to installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up. Focussed on geographic growth, the business is in the process of opening offices in Dubai and Iran.
Mark Dixon, Managing Director:
“Diamond Discovery greatly assisted in achieving clear definition of requirements and then moving into implementation which meant the project progressed to schedule and budget. DeepSea was pleased with the efficient interfacing, regular progress updates and also the deployment of the new application onto our system which took the stipulated setup time and operated essentially “out of the box”. The customised tools we now have in place have enabled us to achieve greater control over our projects via the ability to collect and manage the detailed time records of the engineers."
What we did:
At any time, DeepSea will have many short, medium and long-term
projects in progress. These will be managed locally by senior
engineers, co-ordinated geographically from a global location and
administered centrally from the UK head office. Project and financial
control is key and DeepSea required a software system to provide an
easy-to-use web interface for engineers to record their project time and
expenditure, with a comprehensive central project management and
reporting interface for global and UK locations. DeepSea could not find
a standard software product to fit their requirement (although some
suppliers claimed they could provide one) and therefore recognised that
they needed a developed solution that fitted within their budget and
timescales.
This proved to be an interesting and challenging project. We developed
our existing Contract Costing Module to add the ability to manage the
web processing interface (including user account details and project
reporting parameters) centrally from the UK head office. Local project
engineers use the web interface we designed to record time and
expenditure details. Global office co-ordinators access the central
database using remote desktop technology. Project Administrators in the
UK head office synchronise the web interface with the central database,
thus enabling them to use standard reports and data exports from the
database to produce complete, accurate and up-to-date management
information.
The system was developed and implemented on time and in budget and went
live in November 2009 to provide a global solution for a dynamic global
business.
