Payroll Update 2010/11: Detailed Instructions
There are two steps to follow. The first is a pre-requisite to ensure you have the appropriate settings to save the update to your PC or server. The second is to save the update files.
Ensure the DDPAY folder is not marked as 'Read Only'
- Right click on the DDPAY1011 icon on your desktop and select the 'Properties' option.
- On this screen, click the 'Find Target' button near the bottom (It will be called Open File Location in Windows Vista and 7) – this will open the 1011 Payroll folder.
- Click 'Ctrl' and the 'a' key together on your keyboard to highlight all the files in this folder, if you then right click on any of these files and select 'Properties' to open another window, which will have an attribute setting marked as 'Read Only' near the bottom.
- Un-highlight this box so that it is unchecked and click 'Apply'.
- Click 'OK' on any subsequent messages.
Install the update
- Click the link to save the file to your PC or to run the file directly from the website.
- If you save the file, locate the download folder with Windows Explorer, then double click the file.
- A WinZip Self Extractor window will appear.
- By default the 'Unzip to folder' path will point to C:\Program Files\DDPAY1011.
- If you have installed DDPAY to a different folder on your PC, or on a server, click on browse and navigate to this location.
- Click 'Unzip'. A message will appear saying for example '10 files unzipped successfully'.
- Close the WinZip windows.
- If you get any 'Can't create output file' messages during the update:
- The program may be still running on a machine. In which case, press CTRL-ALT-DELETE on your keyboard to open 'Task Manager'. Then, on the 'Applications' and 'Processes' tab, check for the 'QTAC1011 Presentation Layer’ process. If it is running, highlight it from the list and click 'End Process'. On a network, ensure that you do this for all PCs on which DDPAY1011 is installed.
- If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you will need to disable User Account Control.
- Click on the ‘Start’ button on the desktop.
- Click on the icon or picture in the top-right corner to open 'User Accounts'. If you don't see the icon, open 'Control Panel' and select 'User Accounts'.
- Click the link labelled 'Change User Account Control settings' or similar to open a new window.
- On Vista, this window is labelled 'Turn User Account Control on or off to protect your computer'. Remove the tick, click OK and then restart your PC, first saving any open documents.
- On 7, this window is labelled 'User Account Control Settings'. Move the slider down to 'Never notify' and click OK.
- In both cases, you will need to restart your PC. Ensure you close all applications and save any open documents before you restart.
- The folder may still be set to Read-Only. In Windows Explorer, browse to C:\Program Files\DDPAY1011 (or the equivalent network location), right click the DDPAY1011 folder and click Properties. Untick the Read-only check box and click apply – retry the update.
- When you next start DDPAY1011, it should display the message 'The Database is out of date and needs upgrading'. We recommend that you create a backup before running the database update. Click 'Yes' on this message and follow the backup instructions. If you click ‘No’ on this message it will update the database straight away. From the menu, select 'Help' > 'About' to see that the executable version is 12.72.00.00.
